The region of eastern Westphalia is internationally renowned as a stronghold for mechanical engineering. It might come as a surprise, however, that it pays to use solar power in this region as well. Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH
set out to prove the point a little over a year ago. As a specialist for conveyor technology, filter- and processing systems, as well as for plastic parts, the company installed no fewer than six SunCarrier systems in December of 2007, in a period of only 7 weeks. On the cut-off date at the end of 2008, already 205,000 kWh of electrical power had been generated by the sun and fed into the company’s power supply. This is the statistical equivalent of the average energy consumption of more than fifty 3-person households.
In view of federally guaranteed purchase prices for electrical power generated by the sun, the SunCarrier investment by Bürener will have paid for itself in 10 years at the most. And the feeling of having helped the environment is an added bonus that comes free of charge.
